The rapture is when God takes those who believe in him out of the earth, before the wrath of God is poured out on the world. There is one generation of believers that will not experience the death. It’s the born-again Christians who are living at the time of the rapture. When Jesus comes to collect his church, he will first raise up the bodies of those who have died believing in him. Then he will gather up, all the Christians on the earth who are alive. At that moment our bodies will be changed to immortal, and we will meet Jesus in the air. This will all happen in a very quick moment. Often sleep is used to describe death (Psalm 13:3 & Acts 13:36). Here are some Bible verses that describe the rapture.
1 Thessalonians 4:15-18, We who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep (died). For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words.
1 Corinthians 15:51-53, Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep (die), but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality.
It will happen without warning. Some people will be working and others will be sleeping. This will be a world-wide event. Matthew 24:39-41, they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one left. Luke 17:34-35, I tell you, in that night there will be two in one bed. One will be taken and the other left. There will be two women grinding together. One will be taken and the other left.”
