Jesus does not want us to be in the dark about when he will return.  In some of these verses you will hear the words THAT DAY.  This is a reference to the tribulation period.

1 Thessalonians 5:4-5 But you are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief. For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness.

He does not want this day to surprise us.   He wants us to know when His return is near.  The prophets of the old testament wrote about the Messiah because God wanted them to be looking for Him and when He showed up, God wanted them to recognize Him.  Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for not recognizing that it was the time for the Messiah to come. Luke 12:56 You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of earth and sky, but why do you not know how to interpret the present time? The Prophet Daniel told them in chapter 9 the time when the Messiah would come.  They missed recognizing their own savior because they did not know it was the time of his arrival. This will happen to many in the world today.  So many people are focused on the world and they are missing all the signs.  They will not be ready when Jesus show up to take his Church home with him.

I am going list some of the prophecies about Israel that have come true in our generation.  I will start with the biggest one first.  Many Prophecy scholars would say the Biggest sign announcing that we are the final generation is found in Matthew.  Jesus was asked by his disciples when would be the sign of his coming and the end of the age.  Jesus proceeds to tell them of events that are going to occur in the end times.  He then backtracks and tells them in what generation these things will happen. Matthew 24:32-34  “From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near. So also, when you see all these things, you know that He is near, at the very gates. Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. The reason we know that Jesus is talking about Israel is because Israel is referred to in the Bible as the Fig tree.  Jeremiah 24 talks about how God sees the people of Israel like good and bad figs.  Hosea 9:10 also refers to Israel as figs on a fig tree. So, when the nation of Israel starts to bloom we know that this is the generation that will see the return of Jesus. According to Psalms 90:10 a generation is 70 years, 80 if you are strong. Israel was established in 1948. I believe was are at the end of the generation Jesus was talking about.  Here is a good article about the fig tree and the generation that will see Jesus' return.  The Last Generation

Here are some more prophecies that have happened to Israel since this generation began in 1948.

Isaiah 66:8 Who has ever heard of such things? Who has ever seen things like this? Can a country be born in a day or a nation be brought forth in a moment? Yet no sooner is Zion in labor than she gives birth to her children.
Israel was established in one day. This was the day Bible scholars got excited. This was the day the fig tree bloomed. Those born from this time on is the generation that will see the return of Jesus. The day Israel was born was May 14th, 1948.

Ezekiel 36:24 For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all the countries, and will bring you into your own land. There is so much anti-Semitism around the world that Jews have been moving back to Israel in droves. God is regathering his children.

This next verse is so amazing when you know that the land of Israel was a desert wasteland and was infested with malaria prior to 1948. FYI, I shorted the verse a little. Isaiah 41: 19-20 I will turn the desert into pools of water and the parched ground into springs. l set pines in the wasteland, so that people may see and know, may consider, and understand, that the hand of the Lord has done this. When the Jews started returning, the hand of the Lord restored their land. Israel is now one of the most fertile lands in the world. God, made the desert bloom.

Zephaniah 3:9 For then I will return the people to a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the Lord, to serve him with on consent.
With Jews from all around the world returning to their ancestral homeland there was an array of languages. They needed to communicate with each other because there was no universal language for them. Eliezer Ben-Yehuda put together a pure Hebrew language fulfilling Zephaniah 3.

Leviticus 26:7-8 You will chase down your enemies and slaughter them with your swords. Five of you will chase a hundred and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand! All of your enemies will fall beneath your sword. Israel has had many miraculous victories since becoming a nation. This tiny country the size of NJ has been attacked by multiple, larger countries at once and God has given them victory.

Luke 21:24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword and shall be led away captive into all nations and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled. The Temple in Jerusalem was destroyed in 70AD. Jerusalem was in the hands of the gentiles from 70AD until the six day, war in June 1967, when Israel miraculously recaptured its capital fulfilling another prophecy.

Zechariah 12:3 And in that day, will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people. All that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.
Zechariah is referencing the day of the Lord. This little democratic country has the United Nations and pretty much every country in the world gathering against it. A lot of countries won’t even recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Israel wants to build their Temple in Jerusalem and doing so could cause a huge war because the world is focused on this one city, just like God said it would be in the latter days.

Psalms 83:4 They have said, come, and let us cut them off from being a nation that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance. This verse from the Bible written thousands of years ago is what leaders of countries are saying about Israel, now. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said he wants to wipe Israel off the map. Iran just paraded in the street a missile with a poster next to it that says death to Israel.

The signs with Israel alone are telling us we are in the end times. Don’t keep these signs a secret. Go out and tell your friends and family. Time is short and they need to make sure they are right with God.
