How to Recognize False Teachings

I am going to talk about how to recognize false teachings. Before I get into details I know for some of you, if what I say goes against what you have come to believe in, it may be scary to hear. It could cause those who are close to you to get upset, if you start believing something different. Some churches have policies that if you leave their particular faith all your family and friends are no longer allowed to speak with you. Jesus knows there is a cost for following him. He paid a high price for you and sometimes we may have to pay a high price for him. In Mark 10:28-30, Jesus tells Peter that when we leave our family for the sake of Jesus or the gospel we will be rewarded a hundredfold and will have eternal life.

Psalm 27:10, For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the LORD will take me in.

God is your Father and will take care of you. He is your family.

When you find the truth and stand up for what you believe in, it may cause those whom you love to see the light also. In Matthew 5, Jesus talks about how we are the light of the world and we are not to hide that light. When the light is turned on people are able to see more clearly. They may come to faith because of you. It may not be instant and you may have to go through some hard times but God will use you. Acts 16:31, Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household. Keep praying for the salvation of your family members. James 5:16, The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

I am praying for everyone who reads my blog and every one of my listeners of At Home With The Lord, that God will help you see the truth. That he will give you strength to pull away from any false teachings. I pray you will be able to hear God’s voice, will follow him, and that you will lead others to the Lord.

There are many false teachings that have gripped the Christian community. The false teachings in the church are very serious. Many are on that wide path to hell and people are not looking up to God to ensure they are walking on the road of righteousness that leads to life. They trust those they are following. Have you ever hit a detour in a road and everyone in front of you goes one way, so you follow? I have done that. I figured they probably know the area better than I do, so I follow them and then end up completely lost. Please don’t take a chance on your eternal future by trusting someone to lead you. Let the Holy Spirit lead you. Seek him! He is the one you want to follow, He knows the way. He is your Divine GPS that never makes errors. He can only help you if you are looking and listening to him. Don’t keep him turned off.

I am going to go over why it is so important to test what is being taught and who is teaching.

The Bible says in 1 Thessalonians 5:21, Test everything; hold fast what is good.

1 Corinthians 14:29-33, talks about how people should test what is being said to them by the prophets and even the prophets should test what the spirits are saying to them.

Why do the prophets need to test what is being spoken to them in the spirit? Evil spirits trying to deceive someone will appear to the natural man as good. One third of the angels in heaven were cast out with Satan and they are looking to draw people away from God.

2 Corinthians 11:14, says, Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.

There are religions out there that started based on a vision from an angel. The angel came to someone to reveal some new kind of truth. The spirit will give a word that may twist the truth or flat out contradict the bible or say the bible has been corrupted over the years and you can’t trust it, which is not true. From angelic visions new revelations have been introduced into the church, and new literature has been written to form a religion based on deception.

1 John 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Acts 17:11, Now, these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.
They were calling them noble because when they heard something they looked it up in scripture daily, to see if it was true.

2 Corinthians 13:5, Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!

Not only do you need to test those things which you hear being preached to you, you need to test yourselves to see if what you believe is true.

God does not want us on the wrong road. The bible has given us a few pointers to figure out if the person who is teaching you, is being led by the spirit, or if they are leading us away from the Lord with false teachings. I grouped them into 3 categories or we can call them road signs. Click on the links (road signs) below to read about the warnings God has given us.

The 3 main road signs

My goal is to help you check to see if you are following the narrow path to life or are on the broad road to hell.  Matthew 7:13, "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.

If you turn on that Divine GPS and realize you are on the wrong road, it will quickly recalculate and get you back on the narrow path leading you Home.
