End Times - The Judgments – Part 1 – Bema Seat

There are two main judgments that will take place after the tribulation. There is one judgment for believers called the Judgment seat of Christ.  In this judgment believers will receive different levels of rewards.  There is also a judgment for unbelievers called the Great White Throne Judgment.  In this judgment unbelievers will receive different levels of punishments based on how the person lived on earth.

Today I am going to go over the Judgment of the believers.  The judgment seat of Christ is also referred to as the Bema Seat.  Bema is the Greek word for judgment seat. Since Jesus paid for our sins, we do not have to.  This is a judgment of rewards for the believer.

Revelation 22:12, "Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done.

Matthew 5:12, "Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Matthew 10:42,
And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.”

Colossians 3:23-24, Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance, It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.

Don’t get discouraged when you are not in an ideal job. The Lord has reason for you to be there and wants you to work for Him. You are placed in that location to bring his light and love. Seek Him in everything you do, and rewards will follow you.

Matthew 6:19-21, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also
.

2 Corinthians 5:10, We make it our aim to please him. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil. When I look up the Greek word Kakos used for evil the first definition listed is the word worthless. Will your deeds in the body reap you rewards or will they be worthless?

Because we have taken cover in our savior we do not get punished for our sins but we will have to answer to God for those things we have done, while on earth.

Matthew 13:36, I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak.
Our words can build people up or tear them down.

Proverbs 12:18, The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.

God spoke the universe into existence with the breath of His mouth and with the breath of his mouth he breathed life into Adam. Our breath and tongue are a creative force, and this is why we have to give an account for every careless word we speak. Our words affect the lives of people in a profound way. The next time you have an urge call someone dumb or stupid think about the effects it will have on the other person. Will they believe you, and think they are dumb, and not live up to their God given potential? Will you build them up with confidence and watch them soar into new heights, fulfilling the call God put in their lives?

CROWNS

We will rule and reign with Christ during the thousand years. The Bible mentions 5 specific crowns that future rulers can obtain.

You can find details on the Crown of Righteousness in 2 Timothy 4:8, This is for those who look forward to his coming.

You will find the Incorruptible Crown in 1 Corinthians 9:25, This is for those who keep their body in subjection through diet and chastity.

The Crown of Life, is located in Revelation 2:10, 'This is for those who have been tested and suffered yet has been faithful to the Lord unto death.  This is also known as the Martyrs crown.

In 1 Peter 5, you will find the Crown of Glory.  This is for Christian mentors or elders who desire to minister to God’s people.  They are eager to serve and are a good example to others.

The last crown specifically mentioned is the Crown of Rejoicing1 Thessalonians 2:19 This is for those who rejoice in bringing people into the kingdom of God.  To do that you need to share Jesus.

These crowns can be lost.
Revelation 3:11, 'I am coming quickly; hold fast what you have, so that no one will take your crown.

WORKS

Not all good works receive rewards. They must be done with the right heart and intentions.

Matthew 6:1-4, “Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. 2“Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 3But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
Bragging how much you give to charities will reap you no rewards in heaven.

Rewards can also be obtained through group efforts. If there is someone who does not know Jesus, it may take a few people talking to him until he reaches out to God on his own. God needs every member of the Church to be working on his be
half.
1 Corinthians 3:8, Now he who plants and he who waters are one; but each will receive his own reward according to his own labor.

2 Corinthians 9:6, Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.

During this judgment God tests all our works in this lifetime with fire.  Some souls will enter heaven with no rewards because they were all burned up.

1 Corinthians 3:13-15, each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. 14 If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. Pay close attention to this last verse 15 If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.

Notice that no one is turned away from heaven due to lack of good works.  Doing good works because you think you are going to get into heaven that way, is not trusting in Jesus.  It is trusting in yourself.  This is very dangerous not only will it cause you to loose every reward but it could be a salvation issue.

Works do not save you, Jesus does!

You cannot earn the love of God, it is freely given to you.  Loving Jesus and trusting in Him is what gets you in.  It is Grace through Faith only, that gives one salvation.
